A few years ago we introduced a way of belonging and participating in the life of St. Mary’s through the Order of Bethany. The vows of the order were rooted in the saints from Bethany… Mary (fidelity), Martha (hospitality), Simon the Leper (solidarity), and Lazarus (levity). The council and staff had a retreat in September and discerned the order being a way for people connected to St. Mary’s—both in Nashville and beyond—to enter into a membership that is a shared way of life. 

We will have a meeting over Zoom on December 10th at 10am. The meeting will be recorded and posted online that week. Those in the community who would like to participate in the order are invited to take the vows on January 7th.

Membership in the order is not an elevation in status, but a commitment to work together for God’s justice, mercy, and peace. The vows are for one year and joining is always open. Everything the order does is always open to everyone in the community whether they join or not.
